There is something profoundly depressing about being aware that it is one of your former oldest friend's birthdays, but you have no way to wish them a good one because they have all but disappeared without explanation.

Some folks are meant to be your friends for a matter of months, and some folks may be your friends for a matter of years. Obviously she wasn't interested in continuing the relationship another 10 years, but never bothered to say as much.

I did enjoy our time together secretly geeking out over comics and making adobe bricks out of brownies, though. Good memories never fade.

But, some loyalties are just one-sided, I suppose.
